Building language while eating ice cream


I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! 🍦


Nothing says summer like going to get ice cream! This presents us with a natural opportunity to encourage language within a routine. Plus, many kids are motivated by the sweet treat.


Labeling: ice cream, spoon, scoop, bowl, sprinkles, fudge, syrup, cone

Describing: cold, melt, sticky, soft, rich, sweet

Verbs: grab, open, close, scoop, squeeze, shake

Familiar phrases: “Uh oh, it is melting", "Get the spoon", "I have ice cream on my face", "Shake the sprinkles"


The goal of using daily routines to build language is to assist families with ways to encourage language development in a natural script.
